We are two widows - Rene and Helen - who found each other through grief. Our husbands died of cancer within months of each other. We had never met before and did not realize that we lived two doors away in the same neighborhood for years. A week or two after my husband died, Helen knocked on my door and we became friends - bonded by a common experience and a common heartache.
Each of us has our own love story to tell. Together we have worked our way through grief to realizing that every moment counts in life. We decided from the very beginning that we would not waste a moment of living. We vowed never to forget our love for our husbands and to honor them by setting out on adventures that thrilled the soul and knowing that God does give us second chances at life.....and perhaps at love.
So for the past year we set off on a quest to "live outside the box" and take the trips we always wanted to take. Together we have been to Nashville, Alaska, Orlando, Key West, Savannah, Tampa, etc. We have savored the moments by truly connecting with people, getting to know their stories, sampling the unique cuisines, experiencing the culture and the past times of each place. Indeed we have danced til dawn, taken buggy rides, zip lined across mountain tops, kayaked in glacier lakes, watched bald eagles fly, listened to stories of fishermen, learned to look exotic dishes, been to musical plays, prayed with struggling musicians on the street, watched the sunset at the southern tip of our land, toured fine wine cellars, seen brown bears fishing for salmon, listened to concerts, seen botanical gardens, shopped til we dropped, been to the "Grand Ole Opry" and made so many friends along the way!
We invite you to join us as we continue on. We decided there was so much to tell that we would start a blog and take you with us. Next we are off to a deserted island! 20 acres of pristine low lands, off the coast of Georgia, where eagles fly. It is called Eagle Island. It is the perfect retreat to take you back to the basics of life. See you there!
Living life,
Rene and Helen
